Longevity and personal independence are tremendously enhanced when you have a daily excercise habit and a focus on fitness.An exercise study group of seniors age 87 and older found that those who exercised more than three times a week increased their strength by 115 percent, improved their stair-climbing power by 28 percent, and increased their walking speed by 12 percent. But you don’t have to become a gym rat to be good to your body. Even moderate exercise plays a role in both physical and mental wellness, from weight lifting and strength training to swimming or low-impact aerobic exercise.And it’s important to know that a healthy body helps prevent the mind-attacking disease, Alzheimer’s. Simply walking at a brisk, sustained pace is one of the best exercises all the way around, and when that activity is supplemented with mental stimulation, it provides an great phy/mental therapy for older adults.Set aside 30 minutes and Just Do it.
