> The CHHA's were wonderful, as were the LVN's -- but Dr. Protacio was a BIG FAIL. The Certified Aides who came to our home twice a week cleaned my mom very attentively, nicely, and with great care. The LVN who would come out twice a week was also very caring, checking her vitals, etc. One of the RN's was pretty good, but I had to pull information out of her. We'd had the hospice for a bit over 3 months, and the Doctor only came to our house one time; unannounced on a Sunday morning, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, so at first I didn't know if he was a salesman or something. My mother sadly passed away exactly one week after a fall in her bedroom; the injury didn't look bad, like a modest carpet burn, but at her age it was too much.I'm sure he was informed of this by the RN's, who I had to ASK why she had become unresponsive and not drinking or eating. I had to call the Dr. myself to get his opinion. That he'd called me back was amazing for the current state of health care. He asked me her age, so apparently when he called me back he didn't bother to get her file out or check the computer. The RN did give me feedback of what her possible condition was -- but the Doctor couldn't be bothered to come by again to look at my mother, see her injury, state, responsiveness, lack of eating/drinking, check her pupils...I HAD TO REQUEST an IV, as no one suggested trying this. I was hoping that with the IV she might rally, but she did not. He could have given me more advance warning of her situation. Is that expecting too much? I think his communication with me of the pros and cons of her state could have been MUCH better -- actually, they were NON-EXISTENT -- until I'd got him on the phone!Of course, there was nothing medically he could do for her, but he could have kept me -- her only son and caregiver -- better informed.Other than this, in my opinion, poor attention by Doctor Protacio, everyone else in the agency were very attentive and wonderful to deal with.
