> I prefer repair people to charge by the hour.  Many companies, though, quote by the job. If it takes very little time to do a job, they make out, but if the job takes longer than they expect, you got a good deal.Pacific Sunscapes quotes by the job.  They quoted $135 to fix the leak - we accepted the offer. When the repair guy finished in well under an hour, we were ready to pay $135.  But it wasn't fixed. He needed to come back later to finish.  When he fixed it, he tried to charge $220!  We balked, and the owner agreed to accept $135 agreement, BUT ONLY BECAUSE THEY FAILED TO GIVE A NEW QUOTE BEFORE FINISHING! So they wanted to charge MORE than the agreement, because HE HAD FAILED TO REALIZE the extent of the job.  Heads they win, tails you lose.  By the way, either charge would have equated to about $150 an hour plus a little for parts!By law, when you accept an offer, both sides are bound.  It's called a contract. I believe what they were doing was violate a  legal contract!
