We walked back from Staples each night around 11PM but didn't have any troubles or meet anyone that looked threatening. There were families with children waiting for buses. We met an older couple who were staying there and they said they walked to Staples during the day and then took a cab home at night. They said there were lots of cabs lined up outside Staples and it was only around $8 for the ride home. I would recommend this as a good value. I visited LA for a conference last month at the convention center, about a 20 minute walk from the hotel with a few places to grab a taco or hot chocolate from a local vendor and practice your Spanish on a local. The staff was very friendly and helpful. the rooms are pretty standard for an economy hotel, comfortable yet efficient. If you're looking to save money and a place to park overnight that won't break the budget, this is a good option. I have stayed here a few times and the rooms are always very clean and comfortable. Also, having access to a microwave and a refrigerator in the room is extremely convenient; as well as the free wi-fi connection.
