Tell the gentlemen behind the counter what you like and they'll give a few suggestions, pour you a few tastes until you've landed on a flavor you'll commit to a whole glass of. They're knowledgeable, so you'll learn what you like and don't like, and they've got some really nice rare stuff. Also great are the bar bites - particularly the croque monsieur (the only substantial item on the wee menu, but it's a meal)Negative: The noise. Because the walls are a wine-cellar type material, as is the floor, Covell  has a cavernous effect. Just a couple dozen people in there talking at normal levels ricochet off each other to a deafening level, and what should be a very laid-back, conversation -heavy experience (particularly as you're supposed to be able to discuss wines with the bartenders) becomes a screech-fest more appropriate for a sports bar. Covell is doing a brisk business and I hope they stick around -- shouldn't be a problem if they can just solve the acoustics issue.","rating":3,"date_published":"2010-12-11"}]}
