> I would give 0 stars if I could to this sorry excuse of a restaurant. My partner and I are foodies and also dwell in a foody nation (san Fran) where we emmerse ourselves in dining well and tasting many different foods- in which we would say we are good critics when it comes to eating out. I also cook for ourselves 90% of the time and use many fresh ingredients including fishes and meats. We enjoy owing out to the occasional dinner date and found ourselves visiting some friends in the Merces area- after researching restaurants we decided on "fernandos Bistro" on main street- from their online menu they seemed to have many choices to choose from. I called ahead and made reservations- wasn't sure if it would be necessary because we had never been there. When we arrived there were many empty tables (which sometimes is a sign of the quality of the restaurant - in this case yes Ot was because the restaurant is a big thumbs down). We were seated and handed menus and told our waitress would be right with us. We chose a bottle of Pinot noir from murphys California which was surprisingly tasty and a decent price. We ordered an appetizer an also our salads and then after hearing the few specials we ordered our entrees. We were hungry- ate all the appetizer which was fried calamari (can't go too wrong tree I suppose) then we had a soup which accompanies all entrees which tasted like it came from a can- we had a few spoonfuls then stopped. Our salads came and we devoured them- couldn't wait for our main meals, my partner chose the veal piccatta and I chose the sea bass. When our dishes came out- the plates were so hot as if they had been under the heat lamp since we placed our order. When I looked for my sea bass (obviously not Chilean) I found it underneath a burnt pile of crushed nuts that were sloppily set on the fish. I also noticed a fishy smell from the plate, I took a bite of the fish and almost gagged- it was fishy and over done with absolutely no flavor. I set my fork down and asked the waitress to please take it away. At this point even though I was hungry I couldn't bear to receive the same plate again. The waitress took my plate away and a woman whom I suspect was a manager or owners wife came back with my plate- set it down in front of me and said "there's nothing wrong with this fish!"... I sat there in awe that she would have the gall to say that to a customer! I told her that indeed there was something wrong with fish and she angrily took my plate away- also asking my partner if he was done, his veal was terrible we both agreed but he was hungry so he was still picking at his plate. When the waitress came with our bill I noticed the sea bass was in the bill- I again was in shock that they would charge me for a meal I took one bite of and returned! I asked the waitress to please take it offend that I would like to speak tothe owner. After a few minutes we were given the bill again and this time they did take off my dish. I wanted to tip the waitress as if the bill was over $100 - so we walked to the front and we personally gave her $20 for her tip and told her it wasn't her fault. The owner was walking around the corner and I came up to him and told him of our experience and how we couldn't believe the treatment we had expecting him to apologize- instead he frowned at us and told us that he hoped we would never come back there!! Amazing and blatant disrespect from these people- I still cant believe it! We left the 80$ on the counter and left in total disbelief. When I arrived at home I was so sick from the food that I spent most of the evening over the sink throwing up the bits of soup, salad, fish, calamai etc... I obviously experienced some food poisoning and still don't feel well not 15 hours after that meal. I intent in Pershing this further to preventany other respectable customer the embarrassment and grief that we experienced.
