Some businesses are around so long they become a part of the community's flavor...iconic reminders of what we are and where we came from.  We all know businesses have to compete in the market to survive (or get a bailout as we all witnessed in the spectacle of Government Motors).  The loss of Newhall Hardware was a blow to everyone who appreciates a family owned local business - locals serving locals.  These guys just sell ICE in convenient quantities and at fair prices.
