Lunch and dinner are catered with hella good food and they had a really cool music therapy session each week  I was there where a lady would bring in her harp and we would meditate while she played. Also the house is super cool and big, sprawling ranch style with a pool and hot tub! and even though it is big they only have a max of 6 people so it never feels crowded.  The staff was super helpful;l and really seemed to care about how we were doing and we got to go to a couple meetings unlike the previous detoxes I’ve been to where we were on lockdown.","rating":5,"date_published":"2015-22-03"},{"author_name":"Remy J.","review_text":"I was a little worried about writing a review because I'm paranoid my name will come up attached with treatment for future job interviews etc. so I used a fake name but I wanted to give as accurate of a review as possible because I would have appreciated it. I won't lie, going into detox was terrifying. I've been upteen amount of times to different places across the U.S. and just felt like I knew what to expect. II didn't. First off, the house itself is really nice. I was expecting it to be like other detoxes I've been to and I would say it was something more between the hospital setting I've been in and the creepy, janky houses I've stayed in before. I did think it would be on the water just from the pictures on the website but they do a good job making it a relaxing and chill place. There's a pool, jacuzzi, and sauna (I never used the sauna because of all the hoops you have to jump through to actually use it for saftey-I'm lazy) and a big fountain where we smoked. I had a full or queen size bed? It was definitely a bigger bed and they had catered food during the week that was actually really bomb food. During the weekend that I was there, we had a bbq and pizza the other night. Lots of healthy food- I wanted candy. There was no candy. If you ask enough they MAY let you get some but I didn't have any luck :/ Also, I tried multiple times and I usually really good at sneaking more meds during med time but they aren't stupid. So that can be a good or a bad thing. They had an A.A. meeting there and brought us to a N.A. or A.A. meeting if we felt well enough almost every night. The first few days I was there I just wanted to sleep cuz I hadn't slept in 15 days before coming in and they let me rest which I liked. They do check on you every like half hour or something to make sure you're breathing which can be annoying but I guess it was good they were making sure I was ok. We had something like 2 or 3 groups a day and if you aren't sleeping- they make you go. We did yoga (lady is super nice), had a harp playing lady come in, big book study groups where they actually explained what the 12 steps were, meditation, and really emotional groups with the guy that runs the place Evan. I didn't like crying but the staff and everyone there with me was really supportive and that was what surprised me most. I've been places where they just called me a tweaker and told me I was lying even when I really was having a hard time because my boyfriend died. Just because it was a while ago doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. They actually understood that and wanted to make sure I was doing ok. They never told me to stop crying and get over it- one of the girls just sat with me and I will never forget that. I guess anyone can have a nice house but it was the people inside of that house that made the difference for me. It was the first time I've felt loved in I dont even know how long. I didn't want to leave.","rating":5,"date_published":"2015-10-02"},{"author_name":"Katie B.","review_text":"I felt so comfortable and understood. The staff were compassionate and accommodating to my specific treatment.  The house really nice and food was great too. Detoxing from pills can be rough I was fortunate and blessed for the experiance.  I give Akua Detox five stars because they changed my life and Dr. Miller understood what I was going through with love and compassion.","rating":5,"date_published":"2014-18-11"}]}
