Are you kidding me?!! The most expensive car on the lot for a week (online was $242.00) and I am paying 900? How is that it can jump $658.00 just because I came in to rent a car? Absolutely ridiculous!!There is nowhere on the website that states that the price will jump $600+ for booking in person. If that was the case, I would have NEVER rented a car from Alamo. But, we paid it and started our family vacation anyways.  Car wouldn't start twice, had to cancel our last day of vacation because of it and had to sit in the airport with 2 children 3 and under for 6 hours. Horrible service. I checked-in online and went to pick up my rental,  handed them my paper showing my pre-paid amount, and check-in confirmation. I was told they did not have my car I had asked for. From that time on, I was charged over $800, not including my pre-paid rental, during my vacation. I could not go anywhere the first 3 days because I was on the phone trying to clear things up. When I returned my car, I was told everything was taken care of and that in 7 to 10 days all my money would be refunded.  It has been 13 days since I have been back, no refund yet, but another charge on my card. I do have to say that the people I have delt with have been courteous and seem to genuinely be working on my situation. They give good service, both when checking in and when returning the car.  You can even expedite the check-in process by checking in online. I did have something unusual happen to me in my recent rental from Alamo in San Diego. The check-in process was efficient, and after selecting my car from a row of cars, I expected to stop at a checkpoint before exiting the rental car lot. There was no checkpoint stop so I just drove out wondering how the Alamo people knew which car I had taken. I realize that they could probably match check-in time with car type and renter, but under busy times it might not be foolproof. Our last experience a couple weeks ago added to our positive experience with Alamo. We had to arrive a couple hours later than expected and called to be sure out reservation was held. We still had a good selection of vehicles to choose from. We were in/out quickly, great help from the staff and best of all was low rental rates. Alamo cars always are clean and in great operating condition. Because of their consistent good service we will definitely continue renting from them. With other companies, we have had a lot of disappointments.
