> We used this escrow company because it was the choice of the listing agent.  I know better now!!!  I retired from the military with 26 years service and moved often.  We bought houses 31 times, and this was the first time we could say the escrow was a total disaster.  Normally we can trust the escrow office to do things right, but NEVER AGAIN!!!  The purchase price was $595K, and the 6 month tax bill was $5075.43.  Any real estate professional in CA should see that this would be for a home around $1 million.  The former owners had a HERO loan collected with the tax, and we bought the home with no liens, but Remax did not do their job right to investigate and give us a clean escrow.  They should have notified the title company of the error, but didn't.  We live in Utah and bought a second home in Escondido, so we asked to have all tax documentation sent to Salt Lake City.  Remax did not file the address change request to San Diego, and all correspondence went to the former owners, who discarded it.  We have been fighting the tax collector for the past 11 months, paying loan payments for a tax lien that had actually been paid in full, along with tax penalties for not paying on  time for taxes we did not know about because we never got the tax bills.  I would rate this firm with negative stars, but the choice was not offered.  My advice:  USE ANOTHER ESCROW COMPANY OR DON'T BUY THE HOME!!!!!  You should be able to trust the escrow company to navigate through all the real estate details that you don't know about unless you are a real estate professional.
